Biblical Teaching 16
“These are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God,....” (John 31a) But John did not stop there. That declaration does not fulfill John’s purpose for writing the Gospel. He goes on to say, “and that by believing you may have life in his name.” (John 31b) John’s wonderful document stands as a testimony to his passion that everyone in the worldwould come to faith in Jesus, the only Son of God. This series of sessions, the longest of any in the HCO studies, may also be the most profitable for bringing people to faith in Christ and preparing them to live life following Him. The HCO writers of these studies focus on Jesus’ teaching, ministry, sacrifice, and resurrection. Students and leaders will learn much about John, as well, and will grow in awe of the magnificent use of symbolism and richness of writing by John, Jesus’ beloved disciple.
