The study of 1 Peter is incredibly significant for Christian’s living in a postmodern world. Many face persecution because of their faith. They are Christians in countries where there is no protection for those whose faith differs from the majority of its citizens. But Christians everywhere are called to live in situations where the majority of other people have little sympathy with their beliefs. That is hard for those who have lived where the culture was supportive of overt acts of faith in the public arena. That is no longer true and the desire to make it true again may be counterproductive to our learning to live out our faith in our culture as it exists today. 1 Peter has wise words for us wherever we live.
